Today, I want to share with you the mission of social work and how social workers apply this at their daily jobs.
The first mission of social work is caring. In the field of social work, they realize that everything I’m life can not be fixed, but victims still deserve help and care. When social workers are caring, it helps the client open up more about their problems. This is the most valuable service a social worker can provide. Sometimes caring can be shown as social workers going the extra mile for their client. For example, if they don’t have a place to stay for that night or needed money.
The second aspect of the mission of social work is counseling. Depending on the clients needs social workers provide services such as psychosocial therapy, behavioral modification, reality therapy, crisis intervention and group and individual therapy. Social workers help the client change the conditions that are causing them problems. These approaches do not automatically fix social problems, you have to continue these services frequently to show improvement.
The last part of the mission of social work is changing the society. Social workers are constantly trying to change existing laws and procedures so that they cane more responsive to human needs. In today’s era social workers influence social legislation by changing factors that influence racism, sexism, and poverty.
This week, in my social work text book called, “Social Work: A Profession Of Many Faces”, I learned about what social workers mission is with their clients and how they actually apply it in their daily jobs. This is very vital to know because if you want to be a social worker you need to now how to help your client, so that they can have the best quality service. These three missions are something that should be applied in each counseling service.
