Meet the Team

Welcome to Helping Hands! In this blog we will be discussing Social Work and Criminal Justice and how these fields work together. Our mission within this blog is to educate more people on why social workers and criminal justice jobs are needed in our society today. We will also be looking into and researching the stereotypes around these areas and showing examples of how social workers and criminal justice workers influence our society today.

Hey guys! My name is Katy Fedurek. I was born and raised in Farmington Hills, Michigan. I went to Catholic school for nine years then continued on to a public high school in my area. I now attend Michigan State University and I am studying social work. I love kids, animals, swimming, yoga and helping people out. I grew up in a family of four but my parents got divorced when I was going into freshman year of high school. During this time, I found my passion of wanting to become a social worker. I aspire to use my life challenges to help children and teenagers in toxic family situations.

Hello, my name is NaKara Neely. Before I was born, my parents were trying to find a name for me. My mom found the name "Kara", which means someone who cares about people. Then, my dad added "N-a" and they combined the two together and named me NaKara! Growing up I have always been extremely caring and sensitive. I believe my purpose in the world is to reach out to people so that I can help them when they are in need and also to be their biggest cheerleader so they can do their very best! I have always wanted to be in the helping field, but I wasn't quite sure of what I wanted to do. As time went on, I came to the conclusion that I wanted to major in Social Work, working with children and families. Now, I attend Michigan State University, aspiring to get my Masters Degree in social work and after I graduate I will work with children and families.

Hello hello. The name is Kendrick Tran and I have a few words to say in order to introduce myself. The foundation of who I am relies upon how I am feeling at the time. Depending on the environment, the people that I am with, or how I am treated, these all serve as the base of I am. Although I hate to admit it, I care about what people think of me. Every minor opinion and thought towards me runs through my head, all of my actions dictated by the people around me. When I am with people that genuinely care about my health and well-being, I become one of the friendliest, happiest people a person could have ever met. However, if I do not receive praise for the little actions that I do to help people, I spiral down into a self-critical state where I do not like myself at all. I have my ups and downs but I try every day to count the blessings that I have and I hope that I can impact the people around me in a good way, and in return, them me.
