How to Become a Social Worker
A social worker is someone who helps people deal with traumatic situations and gives them solutions to their problems. In order to be a social worker, you first have to obtain your Bachelor’s Degree. This degree is the minimum requirement to become a social worker, which also makes the least amount of money. With this degree, you may be eligible to become a caseworker or a home counselor. Within the four years, they teach you how to interview and problem solves for the occupation. Some of the courses are called social welfare, human behavior, social work practice and occupational research. Furthermore, the Council of Social Work Education requires you to have 400 hours of practice in social services agencies. Moving forward, if you want to expand your knowledge of social work you can earn a master’s degree as well. This may be required for positions such as clinical, schools, and administrative positions. Obtaining your master’s degree usually takes two years to complete. During your first year you learn foundational casework and in your second year, students gain experience in fields of social work. Also, students must have 900 hours of fieldwork in their specializations. Now, after you have gotten you bachelors and master’s degree (master’s degree is optional) you are eligible to become licensed. You must pass a 170-question competency exam by the Association of Social Work Board. The last step is to gain employment. Social work may find better employment opportunities in cities and suburbs.
With research, I learned that after you graduate with your master’s degree, you also have to get your license, which is passing a 170-question exam. I also learned the amount of experience you have to have in your undergrad and graduate years to be a social worker. In addition, I learned what you actually learn while being an undergrad and graduate student while trying to become a social worker. Another thing that I was informed about was that there are better job opportunities in the cities and suburbs.
I learned this information from a video I found online, off of a website called “Study.com.” It is important to know how to become a social worker so that you can take the right steps to keep you on track to get a social work degree. It is also significant to know how to become a social worker so that you can take the right steps to keep you on track to get into that kind of field work. Lastly, it is vital to know this information so you can know what it takes, because after you learn what all you have to know to be a social worker, you choose not to go into that kind of field anymore.
